Subhasish Bose, MD, a Nephrology Specialist
Subhasish Bose, MD
Subhasish Bose, MD, joined AristaMD as a Nephrology specialist in May 2022. While supporting access to care through eConsults, Dr. Bose will continue working with Lynchburg
Nephrology Physicians, serving the city of Lynchburg and surrounding communities in central Virginia.
Dr. Bose became interested in telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It became obvious that we, as specialists, are often unable to reach a wider number of patients in a timely fashion,” he says. “Telehealth platforms have helped with remote patient encounters that are one-on-one… providing access to specialist opinions faster.”
Inspiration & Experience
Dr. Bose grew up in India, remembering that “from a very young age, I had a keen interest to learn more about how the human body works and why people get sick. I volunteered in local health camps and got increasingly interested in learning more about physiology and medicine to be able to help people in need as a Physician.”
After graduating from Calcutta (Kolkata) Medical College, the oldest Allopathic Medical School in India, he moved to England and the US for specialty training, including an Internal Medicine Residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, and a Fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension from Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.
During his residency, he became fascinated by nephrology and the complexity related to the kidneys, including electrolytes, hypertension, proteinuria, and their association with other health issues such as diabetes, liver problems, and cardiac issues.
Today, Dr. Bose is the President of Lynchburg Nephrology Physicians, working with six nephrologists – each from a different part of the world. This collegial diversity helped shape his understanding of the medical practice and his approach to clinical diagnosis. “It has made me open-minded about a wider range of possibilities and sharpened my scientific
and analytic mind,” he says. “I have been fortunate to always learn from others’ input, feedback, anecdotes, and sometimes mistakes.”
Among the patients Dr. Bose sees via eConsult, a vast number of possible symptoms are reported:
- Leg swelling and fluid overload
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Pain or difficulty urinating
- Blood in the urine (visible or microscopic)
- Skin rash
- Joint pain
