Why Specialty Care and Spending Matter in a Value-Based World

Juliette Price, Chief Solutions Officer at HSG Global

The move to value-based contracting across all lines of business has placed increasing importance on how primary care providers manage their relationship with specialty care—for many; this is the first time they’ve explored how their specialty care relationships support (or run against) their care, quality, and cost goals. Learning to understand the value of specialty care within value-based contracts and how to best manage these relationships is critical for an organization’s success in value-based payment. Learn more about why at this session with HSG’s Chief Solution Officer.

Providing Access to Pediatric Specialty Expertise by Extending eConsult Offerings to Internal and External Requesting Providers

Heather Meyers, Director, Virtual Care at Boston Children’s Hospital
Patricia Hanrahan, Sr. Product Manager, Virtual Care at Boston Children’s Hospital
Boston Children’s launched their eConsults program to provide a streamlined way for internal primary care providers to submit questions, quickly expanding this to an external affiliated provider network of 600+ primary care providers. Additional use cases were identified for inpatient eConsults submitted by community hospitals for review by a pediatric Dermatologist. Offering eConsults while leveraging tools like AristaMD to bridge interoperability between systems ultimately expands access to specialty expertise.

Partnering to Lead: FQHCs Drive Quality Patient Care with a Clinically Integrated Network

For Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), the transition to value-based payment brings unique challenges. Their patient population includes low-income and uninsured patients seeking support within opaque and fragmented community care networks. Amanda Simmons, MSHCT, Executive Vice President and Hope Kraatz, RN, Assistant Clinical Director at Integrated Health Partners of Southern California, discuss how FQHCs can:
  • Integrate data to improve clinical performance.
  • Develop risk-stratified care management to target at-risk patients.
  • Partner with health providers and services in the community to avoid unnecessary, high-cost utilization.

Measuring Practice Success and Patient Care

Eric Urquiza, Sr. Vice President of Operations & Client Experience at AristaMD
eConsults are proven to reduce specialty care costs for patients, providers and payers. eConsults also support value-based care in tangible and practical ways by:
  • Creating a path to faster diagnosis and treatment
  • Improving or eliminating wait times for specialists’ visits
  • Increasing access to sub-specialties
  • Minimizing worsened health outcomes resulting from delayed patient care
How can an organization measure better, more efficient and more effective care? In this session, Eric Urquiza, Sr. Vice President of Operations & Client Experience at AristaMD, showcases best practices for measuring the impact of eConsults on practice performance and patient care.
